FHACT Monthly Meeting (Register)
FHACT March Monthly Meeting is a hybrid meeting. Members and guests interested in attending should register for this event via Zoom or in person. After registering to attend via Zoom, you will receive an email with a link to the external Zoom website to complete the registration.
The topic for this meeting is:
"Sahibs, Memsahibs and Servants - Families, History and the Raj"
Our Society's Patron, Prof. Peter Stanley, though known as a military historian of Australia, now specialises in the military history of British India. He has recently returned from research in the British Library, London, completing a book, John Company's Armies: the Military Forces of British India, 1824-57.
Part of his book deals with 'cantonment society'. Peter will discuss the peculiarities of Anglo-Indian families, looking at how they lived and how they can be researched. Peter will also talk about the Anglo-Indian family he knows best - the one he has created through his series of 'Mansergh' historical novels, which he will bring into the talk, which will be illustrated by some of the many historical images he gathered in Britain. (Copies of the Mansergh novels will be available for $25 each.)
