Out and About at the COTA Seniors Expo
Family History ACT volunteers enjoyed two busy days at the ACT Seniors and Better Ageing Expo on Wednesday 23 and Thursday 24 September.
Our volunteers Jenny, Gina, Ann and Caroline met many friendly visitors at the Family History ACT stall, with plenty of interesting conversations about family history research and the stories waiting to be discovered.
Research interests stretched from nearby Crookwell to the other side of the world, including Northern England, Canada and Germany. Some visitors were just beginning their family history journey, while others had already gathered a wealth of information but were looking for advice on how best to organise their research.
Others were interested in taking the next step — turning their research into family stories that could be shared with children, grandchildren and future generations.
It was a great opportunity to exchange ideas, talk through research challenges and show visitors that family history is about much more than collecting names and dates.
If you are inspired to start researching your family, break through a research brick wall, organise what you have already discovered or begin writing your family stories, Family History ACT can help.
We offer research resources, education sessions, workshops, special interest and user groups, writing activities and, importantly, a friendly community of people who share an enthusiasm for discovering and preserving family stories.
Join today or visit us at our library at the Cook Community Hub to find out more about how we can help you take the next step in your family history journey.
