Discovering your Polish Heritage: A Beginner’s Workshop
Family History ACT in partnership with the Polish Museum and Archives in Australia Inc. is pleased to present Discovering your Polish Heritage: A Beginner’s Workshop.
When: Sunday 11 October 10.00am – 3.00pm
Venue: In person at the FHACT Education Room, Cook Community Hub, Templeton Street, Cook, or online via Zoom
Cost: $40.00 (includes light refreshments. Bring your own lunch or visit the cafe at the nearby Cook shops).
All welcome. Suitable for anyone beginning Polish family history research
What to bring:
If you have them, bring along any official documents, certificates, photographs or family records that might help provide a starting point for your research. Those attending in person are also encouraged to bring an iPad, tablet or laptop computer. Wi-Fi will be available at the venue.
About the workshop:
Do you have Polish heritage? Perhaps you know where your family came from but have no idea how to take your research further — or perhaps names, places and stories are all you have to begin with.
This practical workshop will help take some of the mystery out of Polish family history research and introduce you to the records, resources and strategies that can help you discover more about your family.
During the day you will learn about:
how to start your research
researching the various migration paths to Australia
how to research in neighbouring countries
the many freely available online records
reading records without knowing the language(s)
navigating Polish bureaucracy.
The workshop will be presented in English by Tom Wodzinski. Tom has been researching his Polish ancestry for over 30 years and regularly travels to Poland to conduct further research.
Whether you are just beginning to explore your Polish ancestry or have already started and are wondering where to go next, this workshop will give you practical ideas, useful resources and greater confidence to continue the search.
