FHACT Out and About During May

We’ve been busy: read about our open day, market stall, and the Father Brian Maher lecture.

The past couple of weeks have been especially busy for FHACT as we took part in the Canberra and Region  Heritage Festival.

On Saturday, we welcomed visitors to our traditional annual Heritage Festival Open Day. Our library was open throughout the day, giving people the chance to drop in, enjoy a cuppa, and chat with our friendly volunteers about their family history research. Our popular one-on-one consultations with subject experts were in high demand, offering tailored guidance to those keen to dig deeper into their past. It’s always a pleasure to meet new visitors and share the resources and knowledge FHACT has to offer.

Then on Tuesday evening, we hosted the annual Father Brian Maher Lecture at Cook, which was very well attended. Cheryl Bollard and Sue Pillans delivered a fascinating and engaging talk, drawing on stories from the Father Brian Maher collection files. From a touching series of love letters to a dramatic account of a violent land dispute at Lake George, the evening offered something for everyone with an interest in local history.

Spending time out in the community is always rewarding for our volunteers and we were pleased to have a stall at the recent Henry Retirement Village Mother’s Day market. Our volunteers enjoyed meeting market-goers and chatting about their family history research, as well as sharing information about FHACT and what we offer.

We’ve thoroughly enjoyed being out and about this month and look forward to many more opportunities to connect, share, and inspire.
