Topic:  Investigating Military Service from the Family History Perspective

Special Guest Speaker:  Emma Basalama from the Australian War Memorial

Join us for a presentation as Emma Basalama explores how the Australian War Memorial’s archival collections can support research into individual military service. Emma will briefly touch on the history of the Memorial to provide context for its holdings and highlight the relevance of these records for family historians and researchers alike. She will also discuss the services offered by the Memorial’s Research Centre, including how access and support have evolved with the opening of the new Charles Bean Research Centre as part of the Memorial’s Development Project.

This presentation will offer valuable insights and practical tips for all researchers in making the most of the Australian War Memorial’s resources - whether you are beginning your research journey or delving deeper into a family story. Don’t miss the opportunity to learn directly from an expert about the Memorial’s nationally significant collections.

Emma Basalama is a Reference Officer at the Australian War Memorial.  Her role involves assisting the public—by phone, online, and in person—particularly with enquiries from families seeking information about relatives who served. She also helps manage access to the Memorial’s archival collections. Emma holds a Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies, and her research interests include peacekeeping and prisoners of war in the Pacific and Southeast Asia.
