Topic:  Guns & Chiffon - Famous & Feisty Irish Femme Fatales

Special Guest Speaker: Patricia McCarthy from the Irish Embassy.

Join us at this special meeting to hear Patricia McCarthy from the Irish Embassy in Canberra speak about the famous and feisty Irish femme fatales Mollie Gill and Maud Gonne, women revolutionaries who were imprisoned in the Kilmainham Gaol.

Maud Gonne (1866-1953) was an Irish republican revolutionary, suffragette and actress. She was won over to Irish nationalism by the plight of people evicted in the Land Wars. Gonne was well known for being the muse and long-time love interest of Irish poet W.B. Yeats.

Mollie Gill (1891–1977) was a political activist who also became the third and longest-serving president of the Camogie Association.  She spent time in Kilmainham after being arrested in May 1923 as a supporter of the anti-treaty side during the Civil war.

This promises to be a captivating and informative talk that sheds light on two remarkable women who played bold roles in Ireland’s revolutionary history. Don’t miss the chance to hear their stories brought vividly to life by Patricia McCarthy.
