The 17th Australasian Congress on Genealogy and Heraldry, Brisbane 21 – 24 March 2025

The 17th Australasian Congress on Genealogy and Heraldry is being held in conjunction with the 5th Queensland History State Conference in Brisbane from Friday 21 to Monday 24 March 2025.

The first Australasian Congress on Genealogy and Heraldry was held in Melbourne in April 1977. Members of Family History ACT have been proudly attending, and giving presentations to, Congresses ever since.

Congresses are organised under the Patronage of the Australasian Federation of Family History Organisations (AFFHO), with each Congress being hosted by a member family history group. In 2025 the 17th Congress is being jointly hosted by the Genealogical Society of Queensland and History Queensland.

The 2025 Congress Program includes Keynote Addresses from Judy Russell – the Legal Genealogist; Dr Nick Barratt - best known for his work on the TV show Who Do You Think You Are; and Professor Hamish Maxwell-Stewart – authority on Australia’s convict past and the use of digital technology to tell historical stories.

Plus, 45 other speakers will present sessions on a wide range of topics from Using Digital Mapping, Write a New Local History, to Digitising Your Genealogical Records or using Artificial Intelligence in Family History.

As always, Congress will offer plenty of opportunities to catch up with family history friends – perhaps not seen since the last Congress. The Congress Program features two key networking events: a Welcome Function on the Friday evening and the Conference Dinner on the Saturday evening.

For more information or to register to attend visit the Connections 2025 website.

We hope to see you there…
