Celebrating our Honorary Life Members

Members who volunteer their time and skills to Family History ACT are the lifeblood of our organisation and without their dedication, the Society would not function.   From time to time, a special award is bestowed upon a member who has rendered outstanding and distinguished service to the Society.  Upon the recommendation of the Council, the Society at a general meeting may elect a member as an Honorary Life Member.

At the Society’s Annual General Meeting on 6 August 1986, Bill Marsh was appointed the first Honorary Life Member of the Society. In bestowing the award, then President Grahame Thom paid tribute:

‘Since 1970, Bill has given distinguished service to the Society – as Secretary, President (11 years), founding Editor of the journal and de facto publicity officer.  It is because of his leadership and driving force that our Society is what it is today.’  

Honorary Life Members are recognised for their effort and achievements in carrying out the many and varied roles and activities that make the Society a successful organisation.  Whether it is in helping individuals to further their research efforts or, more broadly, fostering the benefits of promoting the study and preservation of family history, members that are awarded an Honorary Life Membership are being recognised for their outstanding service. 

Since the granting of the first Honorary Life Membership in 1986, 16 members have since received this award.   As we celebrate 60 years since the inception of the Society in 1964, we pay tribute to our Honorary Life Members.
