Don't miss the Family History ACT activities at the Canberra and Region Heritage Festival

The 40th annual Canberra and Region Heritage Festival will be held from 11 to 30 April 2023.

Attendees will be able to participate in a variety of talks, workshops, tours, open days and exhibitions at numerous locations across the Canberra Region.

Family History ACT (FHACT) will be offering a number of activities again this year:-

The Father Brian Maher Lecture, 7 - 9pm Tuesday 4 April, at the FHACT Library, Cook Community Hub, 41 Templeton St Cook.  Father Brian Maher donated to the FHACT Library a unique and valuable collection detailing the lives of over 400 Catholic families and their descendants from the ACT and Southern NSW. Come and hear stories of these families and how FHACT is digitising and making this collection available. To reserve you seat Click Here

Childrens Scavenger Hunt, 10am – 2pm Saturday 15 April, Riverside Cemetery, 40 Erin Street Queanbeyan

Bring your children or grandchildren and join members of Family History ACT in a scavenger hunt around the cemetery. Each child will be given a sheet, a card to stamp and a map with graves to find using the Canberra Tracks signs. A small prize will be given for each completed sheet. Torchlight Tours of St Johns Churchyard, 7 -8.30pm Mon – Wed 17, 18 & 19 April, St Johns Churchyard, Constitution Ave Reid

St John’s Churchyard pre-dates the Canberra that we know. See the headstones of the early pioneers by torchlight and hear some remarkable stories of those buried here. Low level of fitness required due to some uneven surfaces. Share a cuppa afterwards in the St Johns Schoolhouse Museum. Cost $15. Family History ACT Open Day, 2 – 5pm Saturday 29 April, FHACT Library , Cook Community Hub, 41 Templeton St Cook.  Interested in family history? Come and visit our Library. See our resources, books and computer programs on offer for our members.  Sit with an experienced member for 30 minutes and learn how to start “shaking your family tree”.
