This exciting short story writing competition is back for 2022, with more cash prizes and a special FHACT member only prize.  The competition will be judged to select the best short story of 1,500 – 2,000 words on a family history / genealogy theme.

We are pleased to announce that this year’s competition is proudly supported by the Family History program at the University of Tasmania https://www.utas.edu.au/study/family-history.

Many FHACT members have enhanced their knowledge and skills via the UTAS Diploma of Family History, through undertaking individual units or the full diploma.  The University’s generous sponsorship has provided us with the funds to boost the prizes for the 2022 competition – 1st prize sponsored by FHACT $1,000 and a new runner-up prize of $500 sponsored by UTAS.  There will also be a special FHACT member only prize of a $100 society voucher.  We thank the University of Tasmania for their generosity.

We also welcome three new judges to the 2022 competition – Dr Craig Cormick and FHACT members Dr Wendy Paterson and David Wintrip.

Craig is an award-winning author of over 30 books of fiction and non-fiction. He is a former chair of the ACT Writers Centre and has a PhD in Creative Writing.  Wendy has a long-held interest in genealogy, has studied history and philosophy and has work experience in research, publications and library services.  Wendy has been a member of FHACT for 10 years.  David was the winner of the 2020 E.M. Fletcher Writing Award.  Born in Malta to English parents, his enthusiasm for and enjoyment of family history interrelates with his continuing passion for travel, each feeding the other.

Every family has a story - write yours now!
