Topic:  The History of the NSW Coast: An Overview

Special Guest Speaker:  Peter Lacey

To many in the Canberra area, the South Coast is their playground, so they feel connected to it. For early settlers in the Southern Highlands and Monaro, the South Coast provided an important link to the outside world. The South Coast's history is extraordinarily interesting and is pretty much the same whether you are in Kiama, Batemans Bay, Eden or anywhere else up or down the coast.

In this presentation, Peter Lacey, the President of the South Coast History Society, will be discussing 10 major things about the South Coast's history that together have shaped the South Coast into what it is today.

The South Coast History Society is a volunteer-based, community-focused organisation established in February 2017 after a need was identified within the community for the South Coast’s fascinating history to be made more widely available. Their aim is to widely promote the history of the NSW South Coast. They primarily do this by producing Recollections magazine, through books such as Extraordinary Histories: Amazing stories from the NSW South Coast, Fascinating Bega and Carp Street Bega, by giving talks to community groups and by organising seminars.  See the South Coast History Society website for more information.
