Family History ACT was recently nominated as a finalist in the 2025 ACT Heritage Awards.

The ACT Heritage Awards are presented by the National Trust of Australia (ACT) to recognise outstanding projects that preserve or promote heritage in the Australian Capital Territory. The awards celebrate achievements in various categories, including Architecture and Built Conservation, First Nations Heritage, Heritage Landscapes and the Natural Environment, and Heritage Education and Promotion.

Family History ACT was honoured to be nominated as a finalist in the Heritage Education and Promotion category for its publication Honour your Ancestors – 60 years of Family History in the ACT.  Published in 2024 to celebrate the society’s 60th anniversary, the book is a comprehensive history of the significant events and projects that have shaped family history and FHACT, and how these efforts have linked the society to the growing Canberra community.

Winners of the 2025 ACT Heritage Awards were announced at a ceremony on 8 October, where the Minister for Heritage Chris Steel MLA presented the awards.  Congratulations to Mark Butz who was the winner of the Heritage Education and Promotion category, for his book Tales from Two Cities: Canberra-Queanbeyan across Two Centuries.  The highly commended award in that category went to ACT Historic Places for Sonic Suburbia: Stories of Calthorpe’s House.  A full list of award winners can be viewed at the National Trust of Australia’s website.
