August is Family History Month in Australia! What a great chance to start exploring your Family History or learn new skills to open new avenues of research.  Together with the Australasian Federation of Family History Organisations (AFFHO), Family History ACT has a wide range of activities planned for August to promote Family History.

The festivities get underway on August 1 with an AFFHO presentation by Shauna Hicks entitled 'A Look at Family History’s Role in 21st Century Society'. You can register for the on-line version at www.familyhistorymonth.org.au.

FHACT has also teamed up with the ACT Heritage Library to stage an exhibition "Heritage Matters" during August.  The exhibition explores our Society's history and the changes in researching family history over the last 50 years.

We hope you will take the opportunity to visit the ACT Heritage Library to see the exhibition.  There is also an opportunity to attend the talks by FHACT presenters offered each Saturday afternoon at the ACT Heritage Library for the month of the exhibition.

Our August monthly meeting will feature the exhibition launch with an opening address by our Patron, Professor Peter Stanley, and is shaping to be an exciting event.

The last event in August is the AFFHO Closing Ceremony, a zoom presentation, 'The 1939 Register for Family Historians' by Fiona Brooker on 31 August.

FHACT will close our Family History months’ worth of activities, in September, with a new course "Publishing your Family History".  Details are available on the website.
