"Your Genealogy Toolbox: AI Essentials for Genealogists"

A friendly, practical four-week course for family historians who are curious about AI, just getting started, or wanting a more confident reset.

Across four online sessions, we’ll explore how tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot can support everyday genealogy tasks — from understanding unfamiliar records, summarising notes and drafting research plans, through to creating timelines, working with documents, generating search ideas and writing family history stories.

The course will focus on practical use, not technical jargon. We’ll look at what AI can do well, where it can go wrong, and how to use it safely, critically and ethically. Participants will learn how to ask better questions, give clearer instructions, manage hallucinations, protect privacy, and keep evidence at the centre of their research.

This course is suitable for people with little or no AI experience, as well as those who have tried AI but would like a clearer structure for using it in family history research.
