Build your own AI-supported research workspace, on a real problem

This practical session is where the AI Research Projects series comes together. The earlier talks showed how AI can help with research planning, searching, transcription, timelines and evidence analysis, and how a workspace keeps a research problem organised. Now you put it to work on your own. With guidance on hand, you’ll start building or refining a workspace around a question that actually matters to you.

On the day you’ll

• set up a workspace around your own research problem — project instructions, key facts, documents and notes
• create prompts you can reuse, build a timeline, and identify the gaps
• plan your next research steps with the AI as a working assistant
• practise the habits that matter: clearer instructions, checking outputs, managing uncertainty, and keeping your evidence firmly separate from the AI’s suggestions

How we work

The focus throughout is responsible, practical use — recording what the AI has helped with, and never letting a confident suggestion stand in for a verified source.

• Cost: Members $17.50  ·  Non-members $25
• Where: In person — Cook Community Hub (41 Templeton Street, Cook)
• Bring: your own laptop and a research question, family history problem, document set, or small project to work on
• Best for: people who’ve attended one or both earlier sessions, or who already have some experience using AI for family history
