The Ryerson Index is a free online index of death notices from Australian newspapers, spanning more than two centuries—from the Sydney Gazette of 1803 through to notices published within the last week.

The Index also includes a wealth of additional materials, such as funeral notices, selected probate notices, and obituaries. These can provide valuable clues about family relationships, locations, dates, and community connections.

Ryerson’s Shari-Lei will join us for an information session meant for family historians of all experience levels. Shari will show us how to search the Ryerson Index effectively, what information it can reveal, and explore ways to use it alongside other family history resources.
