The DNA Special Interest Group Meeting is a hybrid meeting for members with an interest in using DNA for genealogy. Members should purchase a ticket to attend either in-person or via Zoom. After registering to attend via Zoom you will receive an email with a link to the external Zoom website to complete the registration.
The topic for this meeting is:
"Working with clusters"
Genealogists have always worked with clusters - essentially any group of people sharing common DNA. We did that manually through labelling/dotting shared matches. Autoclusters are generated by the testing companies, and by third-party platforms like DNAGedcom and Gedmatch. Now Ancestry has joined the autocluster field and offers several significant advances. These are to alter the cM range for the cluster and to allow the cluster to be centred on a particular match. All other companies' clusters are based on you as the test taker. So there are things to be reviewed and learned.
We will review how members use clusters, and especially people using the new Ancestry features to good effect.
