James will attempt in an hour to share with you some of the family history he carries. With glimpses of family life and the connections as he remembers them. He is a descendant of the Crace Family through his mother (maiden name Fraena Crace). She was widowed by the sinking of HMS Hood in May 1941, and in 1946 travelled back to Australia aboard MV Waitangi.  Gungahlin was the family property until acquired by the Federal Government. It is in the suburb of Gungahlin and the adjacent suburb is Crace named when it was developed after his great uncle and his role in the "Battle of the Coral Sea." The developers kindly created a memorial to the Battle of the Coral Sea on the hill behind the Crace Shopping Centre. He believes it to be the only war memorial outside the Parliamentary triangle.
