The AI in Genealogy Special Interest Group explores practical, responsible and creative ways to use artificial intelligence in family history research. Our sessions are friendly, evidence-focused and suitable for a range of experience levels — from curious beginners to confident experimenters.. Members should purchase a ticket to attend this event via Zoom

The topic for this meeting is:

"AI-enhanced Research Strategies"

Genealogy research often begins with a question — but the path forward is not always obvious. Which records might exist? Where should we search? What names, places, dates and jurisdictions should we try? How do we make sense of what we find?

In this first session of the AI Research Projects series, we’ll explore how AI can act as a practical research assistant. We’ll look at ways to use AI for research planning, source discovery, search terms, transcription, translation, timelines, evidence comparison, gap analysis and identifying possible next steps.

We’ll also look honestly at the limits and risks. AI can suggest possibilities, but it can also hallucinate, invent sources, overstate certainty or miss important context. The focus will be on using AI critically and ethically — as a tool to help us think more clearly, not as a substitute for evidence or judgement.

This session sets the foundation for the later sessions on AI workspaces and the October practical workshop.

Cost: Members: Free
