"Father Brian Maher's 'still point in a turning world'.
Father Brian Maher's 'still point in a turning world'. Cheryl’s lecture will explore how Father Maher's historical research created a "still point" – a place of understanding and reflection – in the ever-evolving world of cultural and religious dynamics. Discover the lessons we can learn from his commitment to history as both a sanctuary of peace and a lens through which we can navigate the complexities of modern life.
Brian Maher was born in Corowa, NSW, in 1936 and passed away in Canberra in 2021. He was ordained as a Priest in the Catholic Church in Canberra in 1966 and spent most of his life serving catholic communities in the Canberra Region as their Parish Priest. His work in chronicling the history of the Catholic Church in this region and his dedication to preserving the stories of the region’s Catholic and Irish communities have cemented his place as a pivotal figure in our understanding of faith, heritage and identity.
Cheryl Mongan has been involved in heritage organisations and advisory committees and has been a frequent speaker at seminars, conferences and workshops for many years. She worked closely with Father Brian at the famous Shamrock in the Bush weekends and has written several books on the Irish Catholic Community.
Whether you're drawn to the rich tapestry of Catholic and Irish history, intrigued by the challenges of preserving historical narratives or seeking inspiration in finding your own "still point" in today’s fast-paced world, this lecture promises insights and reflections that resonate with all.
Don't miss this opportunity to celebrate the legacy of Father Brian Maher and the timeless relevance of his work in our lives today.
