India SIG Meeting (Information)
The India Special Interest Group
meeting is a hybrid meeting for members with an interest in researching family history related to India. Members should purchase a ticket to attend this event by logging in and selecting the event with "(Register)" in the title.
The topic for this meeting is:
"CHARLES BROWN: an intriguing Bengal gunner"
Charles Brown was a gunner in the Bengal Artillery 1821-26 whose forebears and descendants David has been researching for years. His complexion points to his being Anglo-Indian. After purchasing his discharge, he joined Thackers & Co in Calcutta as a ‘Roving Sub Editor’, noted for being extraordinarily well-informed ‘with access to the best information in Government Circles’. He also arranged exploring expeditions in association with the Asiatic Society and was proficient in several languages. Charles Brown was an unusual European soldier with a complex history, which David will discuss in a Zoom talk.
David Macadam is retired and lives in Duns in the Scottish Borders and uses both his History degree and Law Degree to research these individuals.
Either in room, or via Zoom, you are invited to join this presentation and discussion.
