Family Tree Maker SUG (Information)
The Family Tree Maker Software User Group Meeting is a Zoom only meeting for members with an interest in using Family Tree Maker software for their genealogy research. Members should register to attend this event by logging in and selecting the event with "(Register)" in the title.
The topic for this meeting is:
GEDCOM Basics in Family Tree Maker
GEDCOM is an acronym for GEnealogical Data COMmunication. Its purpose is to foster sharing of genealogical information and to develop a wide range of interoperable software products to assist genealogists, historians, and other researchers. It is the standard which allows us to transfer information from one genealogy program, such as Family Tree Maker, to another program, such as Reunion or Legacy.
In this meeting of the Family Tree Maker SUG, we will introduce the basics of GEDCOM - what it is, why we might want to use it, as well as how to export or import a GEDCOM file from or to Family Tree Maker. We will also briefly look at some tools which can help us use it more accurately.
