"Using NSW Land Records Part 2"

This is a follow-up to the session given in February 2023 which provided an Introduction to NSW Land Records including:

• Background to NSW Land Records
• Parish Maps
• Land Title systems covering Old System and Torrens Title

This second session to be held from 7pm on Monday 19 June 2023 and will cover:

• Primary Applications (the conversion of Old System title to Torrens Title)
• Conditional Purchases (time payment for land and impact on issuing of Certificate of Title)
• Deposited Plans

 OUR PRESENTER

The session will be presented by Jeff Madsen, who has had a long career in Information Technology using GIS (Geographic Information Systems) software to prepare maps for Government, private enterprise and family researchers.

He has used the Historical Land Records Viewer (HLRV) since 1999 and, more recently, to research property owned by ancestors, greatly assisting the writing of family stories.

It became evident that this Spatial knowledge could be used in genealogical research. Using maps and investigating areas of historical geography would enhance family stories by finding information beyond names and dates.

Jeff is also involved in digitising manuscript material for the Society of Australian Genealogists.

Cost:  $10.50 for FHACT Members, $15 for Non-Members.

Note: You don't have to have attended the first talk to participate in this one.

There will be two hands-on workshops held on Tuesday 20th, in the FHACT Library for FHACT members who would like help to find and use land records. A separate booking is required.
