FHACT Monthly Meeting (Register)
FHACT February Monthly Meeting is a hybrid meeting. Members and guests interested in attending should register for this event via Zoom or in person. After registering to attend via Zoom, you will receive an email with a link to the external Zoom website to complete the registration.
The topic for this meeting is:
" On our Selection "
On loan from the Hall Heritage Centre, this exhibition is an insight into the life of European settlers on the Limestone Plains from the 1820s to Federation. By the 1850s, an increasing number of free settlers and pardoned convicts created a need for land. The exhibition explains the changing land selection processes, including land grants, conditional purchases and Federal capital acquisition and rural leases. See maps and storyboards that showcase local settlers, including the Schumack, Plummer, Smith and Cavanagh families.
Various aspects of how the settlers established new communities and a different life are told in a series of stories. Read the fascinating stories from a bygone era, from the local constabulary who kept the peace to how medical issues were dealt with. Learn about the life of a blacksmith, tales from the local teachers and the social activities of the district.
Family History ACT member and Hall Heritage Centre volunteer Peter Browning will speak about the exhibition and a selection of fascinating stories about the early pioneering families. Following the talk, refreshments will be served.
