Date & Time
13 July 2024 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM
(UTC+10:00) Australia/Sydney

The Irish Special Interest Group is an enthusiastic group of members who are keen to share their knowledge of Irish research and resources with fellow members. Members should register to attend this event by logging in and selecting the event with "(Register)" in the title.

The topic for this meeting is:

A Look at the Irish in the British Army during the 19th century

Have you ever wondered why you can’t find the arrival of your Irish ancestor as a free or assisted settler or a convict between 1788 and 1870? Perhaps he arrived as a soldier in the British Army. Of the thirty-five thousand soldiers who came out, about nine thousand remained with four thousand members of their families. About one third of these were Irish.

If you are interested in this event you might also be interested in the many other benefits of membership. See Membership Benefits for member benefits, or go straight to Join or Renew to join.
