 How did growing up as a convict's child or a migrant's child shape life in colonial Australia? A Tale of Two Cities is tackling this question by linking thousands of individual life courses across South Australia and Tasmania. Our team, including academics from NE, UniSA, the University of Adelaide, Monash, Genealogy SA, Digital History Tasmania, the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages (SA), State Records (SA), and the State Library of South Australia and dozens of family historians and volunteers. Come and hear how your skills and knowledge are helping unlock new discoveries about intergenerational mobility in colonial Australia. With the help of family historian volunteers, we are putting together 3 million digitised colonial records to trace thousands of individual life courses to produce exciting new insights into intergenerational mobility in colonial Australia to create world-class digitised records that benefit family historians and secure vital historical knowledge for future generations.

 Dr Lisa Hackett is a cultural historian from the University of New England whose work brings the lives of ordinary people into focus. She is part of the large interdisciplinary team behind A Tale of Two Cities, a project that is investigating how nature and nurture shaped the life outcomes of convicts' children and passage-assisted migrants in South Australia and Tasmania.
