Family History ACT is governed by a Constitution that determines the rules under which it can legally operate as a non-profit incorporated association in Canberra according to the ACT Associations Incorporation Act 1991. The most recent version is from 7 May 2019.

The By-Laws relate to the proper administration, control, and management of Family History ACT (FHACT) affairs, interests, and operations and are formulated by Council from time to time as necessary.

FHACT has a Conflict of Interest policy and COVID policies.
